We believe forty years is long enough.

As the 40th anniversary passed on 23 June 2025, there is still no permanent memorial or public learning centre in British Columbia.
Support the Creation of the Kanishka Memorial and Learning Centre

40 Years of Silence.
40 Years Too Long.

On 23 June 1985, Air India Flight 182, en route from Montreal to London, was bombed mid-air off the coast of Ireland at an altitude of 31,000 feet. The attack, planned and executed in Canada, killed all 329 people on board and 331 people in total:

  • 268 were Canadian citizens
  • 27 were British citizens
  • 22 were Indian citizens
  • 82 were children under the age of 18, including 6 infants

The bombing remains the worst act of terrorism in Canadian history and the deadliest mass killing of Canadian children in a single incident. Entire families vanished. Grief swept through communities across British Columbia — home to many victims — but was met with silence, delay, and denial.

Why It Matters — Now More Than Ever

This was not a plane crash. It was a preventable act of terrorism, rooted in extremism and worsened by failures in Canada’s intelligence, security, and justice systems.

For 40 years:

  • Families have waited for justice
  • Canadians have lacked the truth
  • Our children have not been taught this part of history

This centre is a chance to finally confront that failure — with truth, education, and remembrance.

What We’re Asking For

We urge the Government of British Columbia to fund and support a Kanishka Memorial & Learning Centre in British Columbia that will:

  • Educate the public through exhibits, archives, and historical context
  • Honour the 331 lives lost with a memorial wall and reflection garden
  • Support learning with programs for schools, researchers, and the community
  • Engage families and local leaders in designing the project with dignity and accuracy

Sign the Petition Today

We call on the BC Government to:

  • Build the Kanishka Memorial and Learning Centre by 23 June 2027.
  • Recognize the 268 Canadians and 82 children who were lost.
  • Teach future generations about the real cost of extremism.
  • Provide families and communities with the memorial they have waited for.

This petition is led by residents of Canada, united in truth, memory, and the belief that it is never too late to do the right thing.
